We are James and Alexandra Whiteside, a married couple based in Norfolk Virginia. We are professional artists who create paintings on canvas, both of our own imagining and commissioned pieces for clients, as well as murals and architectural decorative painting and embellishment.
James earned a degree in Visual Communications from the Art Institute of Atlanta in 1984 and has been a working artist for more than 30 years in a variety of industries, from civil engineering to movie set and toy design to historic reproduction for museums.
Alexandra Whiteside holds a Virginia Class A residential and commercial builder license, and she specializes in historic preservation. She is the current Vice President of the Eloise Hunter Chapter of the Victorian Society in America and she is a former Interior Design professor. Painting custom pieces grew naturally out of her design business, and Alexandra has been producing artwork professionally for 20 years now.
In addition to creating paintings and murals, James (Jimi) and Alexandra teach workshops through several facilities, including the Downing-Gross Cultural Arts Center in Newport News, Virginia, and Art Central Phoebus in Hampton, Virginia. Jimi and Alexandra both exhibit their work at galleries throughout the Southeastern U.S., and were delighted to have two of their pieces selected for a traveling tour to China in 2017.
Jimi’s painting style is typically representational while Alexandra specializes in abstracts.
